Good article, interesting and also seems quite logical. However, this article suggests that there is some responsibility for a rationalization to come from within the Islamic world and for a public figure from within that domain to denounce the actions of these extremists. If this hasn't already been done, one could assume those leaders to be culpable for extremist behavior!

I agree: Muslim leaders are culpable by virtue of their silence. There are some Islamic movements moving in this direction but not nearly enough and their voices are still a few decibels below the extremists. Problem is, there's still a strong tendency, even among moderates, blame the West, the U.S. in particular, for the problems Islam is facing. This is partly true but the more pressing issue lies within Islam so that's where their attention should be focused.
